Speaking words of affirmation at the right time, in the right way

It doesn’t matter who they are or what position they hold, people want to know that they are appreciated. Most people want to know that they make a difference to the people they live with, work with, and rub shoulders with.  Simply put, people want to know you care. They want and need affirmation.

According to the dictionary, affirmation is the act of giving “emotional support or encouragement.” Additionally, affirmation is to “agree something is true.”  In the work environment to give affirmation to someone is to acknowledge that they contribute in a significant way, that they matter, and that what they do contributes to the organization.  In a personal context, whether at work or at home people want to know that you care about them.

According to Dr. Gary Chapman, “words of affirmation” are one of the five “love languages” that motivate and prop up people. (Dr. Gary Chapman, The Five Love Languages https://www.5lovelanguages.com/5-love-languages).   In other words, don’t assume people know you care, actually express the fact that you care through words of affirmation.

Giving a special, unique greeting card is one way of doing that.  There are events in everyone’s life that allow us the opportunity to express what we feel about them.  It could be a birthday, an anniversary, graduation, or maybe, a new job, promotion, or new business venture provides that opportunity to show you care.

As Christians, God encourages us to encourage others.  In fact, 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up…” God made us to affirm the significance of each other.   It is how we extend God’s grace to each other.

Maybe you just don’t have the words, the special words, the expressive words that project the actual thoughts or feelings you have for someone.  That’s why I have Personally Crafted Greeting Cards, from a Christian’s heart, designed for the special people in your life, for their special occasions. https://johnelzinga.com/personally-crafted-greeting-cards/

Get back in the habit of sending or giving greeting cards as a way of affirming the people around you. It will make a HUGE difference in their life and you will have the comfort in knowing that they know you care.
